«Those who bothered us will help us»
From The Caucasian Captive movie
I would declare it from the beginning: I blame gambling in general and the idea of creating a gambling zone on the peninsula, so-called “Crimean Las Vegas”, in particular. And the reasons are not economic but rather moral and ethical.
Our people are already under the flow of gambling – illness, breaking your fate and family no less “efficient” than drugs. Only in Simferopol I have fellows with this illness, who came down to selling stuff from home – just to spend a few more “sweet” moments near slot machines. Moreover, the principle of earning on others weaknesses and vices does not suit Orthodox thinking, and if you like – is not a Russian way…
But, as the decision to create a “Crimean Las Vegas” was already accepted in the higher political echelons of power, it is necessary to apply the principle of Aikido — to exploit the energy of the opponent: gambling will fight with gambling addiction. Paraphrasing a quote from The Caucasian Captive movie: «Those who bothered us will help us. » How is it possible to do this?
First, you have to build a gaming zone in the steppe region. It can’t be placed on the southern coast of the Crimea and generally on the coast. “One-armed bandits” and green tables should not obscure the sun and sea, should not distract the fathers from their families and ruin a family vacation budget. Otherwise female tourists will curse the whole Crimea, with its slot machines and casinos. And after losing a part or the whole their budget, next time will take their children and husbands to some safe beach – in Egypt, for example.
“Crimean Las Vegas” should be away from the settlements. By its existence, it must put to an end the presence of any kind of gambling clubs in close proximity to the the Crimeans. Here it works already mentioned principle of Aikido.
After opening a global gambling center we should immediately and rigidly, once and forever get rid of all semi-basement gambling clubs in the Crimean cities and towns, to get rid of clubs camouflaging as «computer centers» and «interactive fun». Everyone knows what is behind the sealed windows. All addresses are known, and the names of police guys who “cover” this, I think, are known too. I suppose it would be easy to close all of these places in a single strict operation. And it should not be only the will of “leaders in Moscow”, but simple Crimeans will – who understand the danger of the existence of this criminal activity that turns people into slackers, catching the elusive Fortune with their trembling hands.
And secondly. Unpleasant for all local gamblers, but an obligatory condition for the existence of “Crimean Las Vegas”: the locals must be banned from visiting it.
If you want to work as a dealer – learn and work. Want to become a security guy – serve. A waiter, a bartender – no problem! But gambling is prohibited. PROHIBITED! If you want to waste money – go to Monte-Carlo, go to Azov in the Rostov region – there also exists a gambling area. The principle of “Crimean Las Vegas” should be the following – it can’t be reached on foot. Or even using a trolleybus. No budget transportation – free buses or omnibuses.
If somebody is ready to lose money – okay, let him go spending a big period of time for the road and in the full knowledge that he is going there for entertainment or pleasure – very doubtful indeed. And don’t be afraid that this long journey across the Crimean steppe can reduce the number of visitors. Gamblers from all around the world do not step back because of the road through the desert to Las Vegas in America. Who has the ability and desire – those will make this trip. And difficulty will just filter simple gamblers who have sold out an old TV to have some extra money allowing them to press a slot machine button a couple of times.
Why is it necessary? Simply because it is possible to build the Crimean Las Vegas, but it’s not possible to turn the whole peninsula into a gambling house, and its citizens – to gamblers.
