The bridge line that surrounds the Cape Ak-Burun
Construction of Crimean bridge on the Kerch side was more slowly than on the spit of Tuzla and the Taman shore. The first visible work on the site began only since the middle of last year.
First of all it was a preparatory infrastructural activities. The roads were laid, mobile concrete plant was constructed, the town for bridge builders for 1.5 thousand people was erected, the materials were prepared. Also there were carried out landslide work on the shore. At the same time in the strait technical bridges RM-2 (from Tuzla to fairway – 1.8 km) and RM-3 (from the fairway to the Kerch coast – 2 km) were being build.

In December, near the White Cape (Ak-Burun) began dumping of the extensive moles to the RM-3. Since then momentum builds. The volume of done work and ahead work to retake space from the sea is impressive: big trucks crossing the mound seem to be small insect on on the general background. You have just wonder how monotonous work is able to change gradually the landscape of the area.

Close to it there is majestic Russian fortress of Kerch, built in 1858-1878 as one of the key military installations of the Empire for the defense of the Strait. For twenty years, mostly manual labour has completely changed the appearance and the silhouette of a large Cape. Kilometers of graffs and underground galleries have appeared. There are hidden underground warehouses, barracks, towers, lots of fortifications and, of course, the central stronghold – Fort Totleben.
Almost all ground and the best part of covered buildings lost, but the surviving monuments of military history still admire with volume of applied work and elegance of the architectural idea. Both magnificent buildings of past and present owe its location to the Tuzla spit, that narrowing Kerch Strait being a place of crossing.

It is remarkable that, despite the serious additional costs, it was decided to lengthen the bridge for two kilometers to round the fortress, not subjecting it to any damage. From an architectural point of view the bridge will be typical and utilitarian without any fancy (except the spans over the waterway).
But thanks to bends, dictated by the lie of the land and the circumvention of the Ak-Burun Cape, the beauty of forms the future double bridge that will have length of 19 km is visible on temporary structures. Especially from hills, for example, Mitridad, at the foot of which is the historic center of Kerch.

After 19 February design and estimate documentation of the bridge(212 billion rubles) was approved the speed of work increased rapidly. The construction is carried out almost continuously: at any time of the day continues the movement of the different techniques – all night future bridge is illuminated by lights. We always warry looking to the strait when is windy and rainy.
For work inside of unfriendly environment are needed the moderation and experience. During storms, the navy stops work, and technical bridge, elevated above the waves, continues to be used for the uninterrupted construction operations.

The last few months on the Kerch shore seriously changes have been occurred. The territory of the mole expanded. Three pillars of the railway are being erected and three more are laid down (each bases on 48 prismatic piles, sunk to a depth up 16 meters). More than a hundred piles for props for road bed. The temporary railway for construction needs is being laid on same lot.
More than half of the technical bridge RM-3 has been already covered and it will be connected with the shore. Floating platforms and cranes are working in the strait which, according to the project, have to make large mounds on both sides of the shipping channel. The pier appeared on the Kerch area in may. It is used by a small ferry transporting cargo and equipment on a temporary bridge and speedboats scurrying through the strait.

The bends of the main bridge started to be constructed in mid-may in the waters of the strait. Recently builders reported that the thousandth pile of bridge was driven (besides countless technical piles). It was a four-sided prismatic pile. Such piles are used only on the Kerch side. Is coming to install about 7 thousand piles.
